Classify openings by building use
Start with the door schedule and identify how every opening operates. Record personnel flow, trolley or equipment impact, indoor or outdoor exposure and whether the door supports egress, access control or a fire compartment. This helps separate repeated standard openings from special conditions.
Coordinate frames with the wall system
Provide wall type, structural opening and finished thickness. Masonry, concrete, drywall and panel walls may require different frame profiles and anchors. Confirm whether frames are installed during wall construction or fitted into finished openings, and include typical jamb and head details.
Identify rated and egress openings
State the required fire rating and referenced standard by door mark. Coordinate compatible frames, glazing, louvers, seals and hardware. Emergency exits may also require panic devices, closers or other project-specific components. The complete opening should be reviewed instead of assigning a rating to the leaf alone.

Select finishes for the environment
State whether openings are conditioned interior, exterior, wash-down, humid or corrosive areas. Surface preparation, coating and material decisions should reflect the environment and maintenance plan. Use finish references consistently across leaves and frames.
Prepare the quotation and delivery schedule
Send opening marks, sizes, handing, quantities, wall details, ratings, hardware sets and finishes. Add project destination, installation phases and packing sequence. Labels linked to the approved schedule help the site team distribute leaves, frames and accessories to the correct areas.
