Fire rated doors with glass can improve visibility, daylight and supervision, but the vision panel is part of the opening assembly. The glass, bead, cutout, label and maximum size must match the selected construction.
Define the viewing requirement first
State the required view area, location, privacy or observation purpose and any safety-glass requirements. This allows the selected panel to be compared with the applicable door construction instead of being added after fabrication.
Coordinate the complete glazed opening
Glazing is not specified by rating alone. Confirm the glass system, bead, panel size, door construction, frame and labels together. Large or multiple panels may have different limits from a small single vision panel.
- Glass and bead system
- Cutout size and position
- Door/frame rating relationship
- Required marking and label visibility
- Hardware and edge clearances
Plan for inspection and replacement
Keep the original submittal and glazing details. If glass is damaged or replaced later, use an approved process so the field repair does not change the intended assembly.
Project information to send
- Required rating and vision-panel dimensions
- Door size and location
- Glass, privacy and impact requirements
- Frame, hardware and inspection documentation
Selections must be verified against the adopted code, project specification and listed assembly for the exact opening. For an opening-level review, send the schedule through Get a Quote.
