Start with the project requirement
Identify the referenced fire standard, required rating and the opening location. The permitted glazing type, size and retention method may depend on the tested or approved assembly and local project rules. Ask the design team to confirm any limits before the door schedule is released for production.
Define visible size and overall cut-out
Schedules often state only a nominal panel size. Confirm whether dimensions refer to visible glass, glass size or the door cut-out. Provide the vertical and horizontal position from a clear reference point. This is especially important when vision panels must align across repeated corridor or classroom openings.
Coordinate glass and retention details
State the required fire-rated glazing product or performance, thickness and any separate safety or impact criteria. Confirm the bead, frame or glazing kit construction and finish. The glass and retention components should be reviewed as part of the complete door configuration, not substituted independently without approval.
Check hardware and door construction
- Maintain clearance from locks, exit devices and internal reinforcements

- Check leaf width, stile dimensions and panel position

List the door mark, rating, glass type, visible size, position, glazing-kit finish and quantity. Add wall and frame information, handing and hardware set. If several panel sizes are used, create clear types instead of relying on notes scattered across plans and elevations.
Before production approval
Review shop drawings for cut-out dimensions, glass specification, retention details, hardware clearance and label requirements. Clarify who supplies and installs the glass and how glazing will be protected during shipping. Ask the supplier to state assumptions and exclusions in the quotation.
